New to me 83

Hello all. I recently purchased my 83 K10. It is definitely in need of some rust repair, but I suppose that's all part of the fun, right ?! I've had several older Chevy cars so not new to the old stuff or to Chevy in general, but with this being my first squarebody, 4 wheel drive, and with the plans I have for it at this point, I am sure that I'll be asking for some helpful hints. I've been looking around the site here for a while and finally decided to join up. I'm originally from Oklahoma, but my last couple of years in the Marine Corps landed me in NC, and once I got out I decided to stay and found a job.

Thanks fellas. I had planned to repair the rusted areas with patches, but I would need to find another welder, buy all the patches, cut and weld all the areas needed...to include cab corners, rockers, floors, fenders and bedsides. I had planned to do this over time, but I may have found a great deal on a donor truck, so assuming that deal goes through I'll plan to just swap everything over. The only issue with doing that, is that the donor is an 84 2wd so I'll still need to cut out and swap over the hump. I'll be sure to start a thread if I go that route, but for now my focus will be to get everything with the motor and chassis good to go. The steering is a bit loose and the 4" rough country lift is about 10 years old or so. Ultimately my goal is to have a good running, reliable truck I can use to haul around whatever I need and use as my around town truck and I'll save the little VW for my work commuter.
