1982 GMC K2500 Sierra Grande. New to me July 2026. An estate sale barn queen since 2004. Waiting for the Idaho vanity plates in the mail.
350 M code motor
Muncie SM465 transmission
NP 205 Transfer case.

The transmission and transfer case don't seem right for a 1982 3/4 ton 4x4? Google says these were only used in the K3500. Mine is definitely not a 1 Ton.
8 lugs, semi float, 14 bolt rear.

I have a 1988 K2500 extended cab in the same color scheme.

This is the good side. 5 or 6 rusty panel replacements in my future.
Now that it is home I can see a lot of old road rash. It has a "Chevrolet" embossed on the tailgate. It should have GMC on the left side.

Just finished several interior repairs with LMC truck parts.
1.Replaced plastic glove box tub
2.Replaced window rubber in both doors
3.Replaced door latch pin sleeves and adjusted doors
4.Replaced the in-bumber parking light/turn signal combo lights. (learned there is no juice getting to anything in the parking light circuit on the passenger side.)

Got it lifted up tonight to start installing an LMC bolt-on full dual exhaust kit. I will weld it once I get it tight and clean. Of course the manifold flange nuts are being a PITA. Gave everything a good soaking in PB Blaster and walked away for tonight. I really do not want to be pulling perfectly good manifolds because I spun off a stud.
Need to figure out the running light wiring and I'm licensed and street legal.
I'm afraid to take it off pavement until the exhaust is finished due to the fire danger being so high in Idaho right now.

The SM465 is nothing out of place, but an 82 K20/2500 should have an NP208. If it does have a 205 in it, someone swapped it in. 465/205 combo was the standard for the 70s trucks, minus a short while the 465 was offered with a 203 behind it.

But having a 205 isn’t a bad thing at all and a plus to many, nothing really wrong with a 208 either though.

It may be a 208, I will be back under there this afternoon cussing at the exhaust hardware. I will have another look.
What sticks in my mind from yesterday is that it has a slip yoke. I will look for aluminum vs cast iron today.


As for the backdrop, not my place. My place looks like a typical small farm. "Projects" everywhere. This was the sellers place.
