Need some help

I pulled the T-5 out of my S-10 today to see whats wrong with it and cant seem to get the top hat off of the gearbox. Anybody know how to pull one of these apart. Just wanting to inspect it first to see if its fixable.

It's been a while since I've rebuilt a T5 or T56, but if I recall right there is a roll pin you have to drive out to get the top to come off. I think it's about an 1/8" or 1/16" roll pin. All of the ones I rebuilt where when I was building mustangs so the mustang guys might be able to help you if you can't find the roll pin. If you can't figure it out try to get some pics up and I can try to explain it from there.

That rollpin your talking about is it right in the same area as the alignment hole for the shifter. If thats the one then with that seperated the shaft will come out and the hat should come straight off then right.

update got the tophat off and gears look good (of course) but the synchros are shot and the bearing and loose as hell the shaft has atleast 1/8 inch of play on both ends
