I have a 1979 Chevy K10 with the factory "high amperage" alternator and i was wanting to know if anyone knew of a deep groove alternator pulley that will fit these trucks and if so where one can be had.

By deep groove do you mean one with a smaller diameter?

I bought this one last year:

I bought it because my alternator was not putting out enough at idle. This fixed that.

I like the serpentine style belt that was used in 85,86 still setup like the old V belt configuration but uses a wide flat serpentine styled belt for the alternator. I have it on mine and it works really well. Never squeals and grabs way better than a V belt. Doesn't seem to wear either. Its 7 years old and looks like I bought it yesterday.

Yep i to have that same pulley setup and really like not worrying about the alternator belt slipping. it's a big plus when stepping up the alternator output.

Hmmm I maybe looking into this. I assume its a v belt for the power steering still?

Yep and if you get a double groove pulley for your power steering pump then you can run dual belts on the power steering. However one has to go up and over the water pump and the other just goes straight from the crankshaft pulley to the power steering pulley.

Yes, it is a factory style 62A? 63A alternator.

Hmmm I have a 108 amp alternator and it does just fine at idle with the stock pulley. Are you sure your problem is not in grounds and such ? The alternator will not produce if it doesn't know its supposed to ?

Just reread my question and I see that i need to clarify it. It does fine at idle to 4000 rpm but then it throws belts at anything over 4000 rpm. The pulleys all line up and there is not much play in the belt. i am looking for a pulley for belt retention when the motor shifts at 5000 to 6000 so that it will not throw the ac belt.
