Manual to auto

Hi, I'm new to this site. I'm curious as to how much work is involved in replacing the 4spd manual in my 1977 1/2 ton 4x4 with an auto trans? What auto trans will fit that's at least a 4 spd? Thanks for your help.

700r4 is the best bet but going to need a new transfer case and shafts plus a bunch of other stuff.

Sounds like it will be much cheaper to keep the trans and transfer case and just have the seals replaced and rebuild only if required

...and yes that would be the cheaper route to go.

easier way to do it IMO would be go to a junk yard and pull a 700r4/np208combo with the crossmemeber and everything else still attached
