I'm looking to attach my TH400 to a 5.3 ls, but I'm not sure how to get around the fact that the PCM needs a VSS signal in order to function properly, has anyone got around this?

I’m not the LS guru but maybe @Bextreme04 or one of the others will have info…

Maybe there’s a way to flash the VSS out or maybe Dakota digital makes a signal generator I think. I’ve read the DD VSS signal isn’t good enough for making an “E”transmission shift right but maybe good enough for whatever the engine wants a VSS signal for

That's some of what I've been looking into, thanks for the tip in the right direction

4wd?

You could add something like this in the transfer case adapter and still retain the cable speedo drive in the transfer case tail housing

If you are 2wd and using the TH400, you need to make a change in the PCM to tell it that you are using a non-electronic transmission. It won't need anything else to run right, because the TH400 will be mechanically shifting itself just like it did before the LS swap. You might want VSS to use a cruise control or other reasons, but you won't need it for shifting. There are some adapters out there to get a vss signal good enough for cruise and speedometer use from the stock speedometer gear.

It does not need a VSS signal to function.
