I've owned my R30 since 1988 and have a kinda dumb question on bearings...

Well noted guys and thanks! NO GREASE. The exact same lube I just replaced in the dif will be used on the bearings with a quick dunk. It's usually NEVER ever a good idea to mix different kinds of lubricants - and I know better than that. WTF was I thinking? (Slamming open palm repeatedly on now flat forehead)

Thanks for the input guys, I've got the bearings installed, drums rebuilt with new hardware, ready to rock and roll. Once again a 1988 Chevy R30 1 ton dually crew cab with 10.5 dif.

Yes, I've searched the technical archives but must have missed it:

I'm going absolutely nucking futs though trying to find the torque spec for the 6 pin circular axle nut that holds the bearings snug (52 ft. lbs. then back off to insert the locator pin?) and the 8 axle flange bolts. (115 ft. lbs.?) I know the wheel lugs are 140 ft. lbs.

I know how incredibly important it is to get this right - so looking for the straight poop!

Thanks Andy, I was concerned about the 115 ft.lbs. on the axle flange bolts.

Good thing I've never broken a bolt from over torquing lol!!

I'm so freakin' AR I even got out my Dremel with a wire wheel to clean both sides of the flange mounting surfaces. God I love my truck. :cool:

I didn't look up the actual spec, but that range is correct for that size and type of bolt. I can say with certainty that I have given them more torque (aka ugga duggas, lol) than that and I've never broke one.

Assembly lube is another option. And if you are following routine maintenance it will get swapped out anyway.
