Know the difference between tilt vs non tilt columns. 84 dually Question is what is the difference between column shift( assuming auto) and floor shift(assuming manual). Both listed as a option according to parts stores. Have a hybrid column that i built from a OBS manual column and a square body auto column(both tilt). Doesn't want to go into the acc position or the start. Can feel the start position but doesn't send power out. Bought a new switch and it looks identical to the one i took out. Original to the auto column. Opinions or questions? Thanks

It very well could be the sector and rack, not the switch. I had something similar happen in my Jeep Cherokee and it turned out to be the sector and rack. It's basically the same steering column. I actually bought the new switch for the Jeep, but it's still on the original switch, same with my '81. I do need to change the sector and rack on the '81 as well. I have to lower the steering wheel down for it to start.

have taken out the column and will be taking it apart. Looking at GM rack kits and jeep kits come up also. Same as gm? (look the same and 10 bucks cheaper)

Pretty sure they are the same part number, but there are tilt and non-tilt sector and rack kits, I made that mistake. Also, it doesn't require removal of the column, or a rebuild of the column. Replacing that sector and rack is done while sitting in the driver's seat. But, now that yours is out you can do it on the work bench

My 1974 Jimmy with the SM465 trans has no locking feature for a shifter that is not there, or the steering wheel lock. I don't know if this helps.
