My ignition switch wiring does not match the wiring diagram for my 1982 siverado C10 with Automatic trans 350 engine. Just replaced ign. & nue. Safetry switches and noticed the wiring is not color coded to factory specs. Please help!

@belcazzo,
Does it look like anyone before you has replaced the wiring? Especially look at where the wiring comes to the switch from the fuse panel. There ought to be a #12 green wire coming up from the neutral safety switch to the ignition switch to. I can't imagine anyone changing the wires or why they needed to do that. There was a color code change for the wiring but I can't remember what year it was, and I think it was in the early '80's. I'm sure someone on this site would know. The schematic for your year truck in on this forum.
I have been dealing with some of the very same problems with wiring and color of wiring for over a month now and the schematic is a life saver. Mine is correct but I've had to deal with wires that come from the firewall block into the cab that are in the wrong hole in the block, and that was done at the factory to. When you're tracing wires that are supposed to be a certain color and are supposed to be coming out of a certain place and they are either reversed or coming from the wrong hole in the firewall block it can cause some confusion. But check the schematic. I'm pretty sure yours is due to a color change for your year truck.

Just from memory, I don’t have a book handy.

Red is battery. Brown is powered in “run” and accessory, it won’t have power in crank. Purple (might have a yellow tracer) is crank, it goes to the neutral safety switch and comes out solid purple. Orang is also ignition, it powers the heater, power windows, etc and won’t have power in the crank position or accessory. The green wire (if your truck has it) supplies a ground while in crank as a bulb test for the temp light. Trucks with a gauge won’t have the green wire.

I bought a replacement turn signal switch and other column wiring for my ‘75 and it did not fit well. The colors matched, but the flat multi wire connector was not quite the right spacing and width. It was close, but would not properly plug into the wiring in the truck. I finally just spliced the old connector onto the new wiring.
