I don't know what year it changed over (I'd guess '84), but the earlier cylinders are retained with a spring tab, while the later ones are retained with a screw.
Tilt vs non tilt is different too

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004BTOHDM/ this is what i used in my 1980 GMC K25 with manual transmission, non tilt column
It works great, i accidently broke the wings because i either used too much torque (may have needed to lube something and it was cold cold), i didnt use the lever on the colulm to return the key cylinder to lock and forced it (I used a screwdriver to that point and knew nothing of the lock position)

but its high quality otherwise and the key blanks are decent looking compared to the cheapo ones

wtf

Which part number would work then? The one they sent me or your part number?
I just don't want to get it put together and then in the future if I need to pull it out not be able to.

It's a manual transmission without a tilt steering wheel

IIRC You need to either push the tab keeper in place or you need to somethign to get it engaged

Mine did

Yes you should get my part number, idk what difference but i know it works with the EXACT same column as yours, is why i say that

Earlier than that. I believe 77 may be the changeover year. Note that if they have never been removed and are the push to release style then the release slot may still be flashed over.

I remember for sure that my '78 had the older style with no screw.

But now I just realized that I very recently put a good used ignition cylinder in my daughter's '89. It had the retainer screw. I don't remember where the hell it came from, but the tag on it read "1977 K5 Blazer".

So I don't really know I guess.

my 1978 tilt column wouldnt work on my 1980 gmc without tilt, but i suspect without tilt would have

The LMC catalog calls out 1978 as a special year in cylinders for multiple reasons
1973-1991 for no tilt columns
