I haven't lost any fluid in a day or so..... but i also haven't driven it.

Chris

Chances are you're not going to lose fluid if you don't drive it. The seals can hold with no pressure on them. It when you start using the brakes you'll lose fluid IF you have a bad wheel cylinder or caliper.

I got a new MC today. Its different then the stock one. The push rod goes further down inside the MC then the orginal one does. I called about a half a dozen auto parts places and no one else had the MC like the one i had. Every single one needed a longer pushrod. Any thoughts on where i can get one? On the instructions with the new MC it said get an adjustable one.... again no one has ever heard of that either....

Is it possible the hydroboost system came from a different model truck than the one it's on? Could there be a year break where the design changed? You may need to find a very experienced parts store guy, like the one we have at a local NAPA, that guy really knows his ****. I would take the one you got back and request your core back if you had to turn it in, and if they still have it. Tell them they gave you the wrong part.

We have those kinda napa's around here. I think they built the store around the one guy! I called them and they had the same MC as the new one i got. I even asked them to look inside to see how far the rod goes in and it was the same as the new one. I talked to the guy who owned it before me and he said its been the same since he got it. Not sure about before you know...

Have them check like a 76 model, 73, etc and see if they find a difference. If it comes down to it can you just get the rod?

You can't change the rod but you can modify it. A common solution is to cut the rod in half and thread both halves. Then reconnect it with one of those threaded adjusters that looks like a long nut.

Found out what the problem was.... Apparently in 83 they changed the design of the master cylinders and my 82 got one. So i got an 83 mc now!

Cool, glad you got it figured out. I was wondering if it was a year break issue.

So either someone previously swapped yours, or it was built late enough in 82 they may have ran out of the 82 MC's. Sometimes, transistion years in vehicles can be a major PITA.

Thats what it seems to be, i forgot the date code on the truck but i seem to remember it being later in the year. Either way it works and i just have to deal with bleeding the MC and the brakes now.

I'll stay with vacuum power brakes.

With good reason. My grandfather invented the modern vacuum power brake booster in 1961. Patent 3094844. :)
