I have a fully stock 1983 K10. Will be using it to move some 5th wheel RV's around the shop, yes the 5th whl hitch weight can be pretty heavy, perhaps 3000# on a big RV.
Anyone have experience w/ how much weight a typical K10 will take before wiping out an axle or springs?
Any suggestions to minimize wiping out the rear suspension (wood blocks, etc)?

To put it simply, the truck just isn't meant for that. Plan on at least adding a couple leaves in the rear, a stock half ton will squat quite a bit with too much weight in the rear. The life span of the 10 bolt axle is anyone's guess. It might hold up for low speed use, but don't be surprised if you eventually blow out the spider gears and split the carrier in the process.
