Tell me how to eliminate 155 thousandths of free play on the REAR output shaft.

End play. These use ball bearings on the output shaft so there is no spec for thrust clearance. Without taking it apart again, I'm having a hard time visualizing where the gap is. New input shaft all bearings and case. Yes, I said new case.

You have to understand helical cut gears and how they create thrust. Shaft is going to walk back and forth in accordance with the gas pedal.

I've had some 205"s that would rattle the shifter pretty good. I've put handlebar pads around them to help. The loudest one was in an 80 SB with 8" lift. Drive shaft was too short & had slip yoke pulled out of tail housing I still wheeled the crap out of it!

Those helical gears are the reason we all that NP205. Is there a lower gearset offered for them still in the aftermarket?

Yes but they don’t fit the stock shell. I’d love the 3:1 but the price is getting close to that of a Magnum and for that much money I’d rather have all of the ratio choices the Magnum offers.

Not

Not possible. Bearing is retained by the c- clip on the bearing itself
You’re looking at a different bearing. There is a needle bearing assembly at the REAR END of the front output shaft that is pressed in to the rear cover.

Agree. But the FRONT OUTPUT shaft is not my issue. The REAR output shaft is. It appears the rear output shaft connects directly with the FRONT INPUT shaft. I edited the first post to specify REAR output. Sorry for the confusion. The photos should clarify that.
