are these a type of splice connector or are they a type of fusible links? or what are they if my two ideas were wrong

They are fusible links.

IIRC, the 16 on the side means it is designed to protect a 12 gauge wire (link is usually 4 AWG sizes smaller than the wire it protects).

thanks that was my first thought but one of them has 2 outlet wires....that seemed odd to me.
