Hi my name is David i own a 1987 Chevy V10 with 3/4 ton axles under it and 36x12.50x16.5 Goodyear Wrangler RTII hummer tires, i actually was searching for a solution to figuring out why my NP208 doesn't stay in 4H and pops back into 2wd and stumbled across this site and well this is where i figured id find what i need to find. I hope to hear from people with their thoughts on what it could be considering it stayed in 4H before i pulled my trans (700R4) last year to get it rebuilt and mildly beefed up and after i put it all back together it decided it wanted to kick itself out and a bungee cord just isn't keeping it locked in anymore. so here goes nothing lets see what the options could be......

Howdy! A few things can cause your issue... linkage out of a adjustment, worn/broken trans mount or excessive frame flex due to shot body mounts. Since it started when you had the tranny done, I'd look at the linkage adjustment.

thanks Andy, i actually looked at the linkage and we had another 208 laying around looked at how that one was set and then attempted to adjust the one on my truck well that ended quite bad with a twisted linkage, so i pulled the other one off the spare 208 adjusted it just inside the one off my truck and it seems to be working better i did a few launches on the track we have at my work for mud runs and it stayed in then it popped out again but this time i adjusted again and now its almost flawless but im still gonna keep a bungee cord in my truck just in case its the shift fork i just need to get through snow then next spring i'll probably gut the spare tcase and use everything out of it cause it was rebuilt before it was pulled
