I "Think" that the control lever for the heat-A/c-Defrost is done through a vacuum switch, and so, I think that there are hoses instead of cables.
if that lever is hard to shove from side to side then, it would be an issue within that vacuum switch itself.
if it is the heat control lever, that one should be cable operated and, if that lever is hard to shove then, it is most likely an issue within the cable.

The only cable is for temperature control. It strokes the blend door left to right.

Can you identify the broken piece in the image below? The red line shows where the heat control cable would run.

That was not my handywork, I found it on the net. I like the fact that it has self tapping screws. :D

My fix for the connector. It's made out of a steering alignment shim from a 2wd '66 C10 I had laying in my miracle pile. The original that's been JB Welded is beside it. While letting it cure, I decided that wasn't good enough. It'll never brake again. Cable or blend door might but that connector won't.

Yep, whatever works. I have only found 1 of these parts to not be broke. I didn't even bother taking it because I figured it was so brittle, I'd end up breaking it by the time it got installed anyway. USUALLY, depending on where it breaks, the blend door will still open and close, just not as far.

I need to check this out on my 84'. Any time I run the heat on lower fan speeds, I get a vibrating/flapping sound like one of the climate control doors is flapping around. I'll be this piece is broken and allowing the door to do that.

So, I finally got around to this a few years later, heh. The weird flapping was the bottom floor vent having a loose screw, but this divert plastic piece was broken as well.

I did the permanent fix. You don't need to disassemble the box like this to do it, of course. I just had it apart to do the heater core.

Working on my air, the temperature cable thing, is there something broken here? Black plastic might be, but can't tell. When the blend door is stroked, cable pops up. Where is that metal bell-shaped thing supposed to go - before or after the bracket?
