Some say the starter support bracket is overkill ..

They might be right ??

Since I'm keeping the old huge Oem starter in play on this Hi-compression stroker big block motor I installed the bracket..
If a mini starter was going to be in use, I wouldn't had brother using one ..

Wasn't a easy install .. Had to make a insert being GM did a 1/2" threaded hole in the 1990 block, should had been a 5/16" x 18 hole there ..

Maybe options on whether to drain driver's side or passenger side?

Could be. One side is a 90. Neither is on the actual bottom though so idk
Maybe with the engine installed in the vehicle, the drains are at the lowest part of the pan? I bet the 90 is for some kind of oil return. Jesse is a crafty dude. Come to think of it, I do believe he has an oil cooler installed on the lower front of the frame, so it may plumb right in to that 90.

No pipe in the oil pan .. The 90 degree fitting is for the oil dipstick the plug is the oil drain ..

The Mercruiser boat motor oil pan used a external dipstick unlike a stock car/truck pan having the stick going into the side of the pan ..

I made a dipstick from using a stick from a Ford F-350 truck ..

Reason for the long fill tube and dipstick is for keeping my fat ass from climbing on the truck for service work ..
Being a 4x4 with a 4" suspension lift and 33" tires, it's up there !
Was thinking about doing a tilt doghouse, but the tubes was much easier to do !

Did a oil cooler using a Oem adapter ..

A GM oil cooler adapter for a Big Block Chevy (BBC) is a sandwich-style plate installed between the engine block and the oil filter to enable external oil cooler plumbing. It diverts oil to a cooler and back, preventing high-performance or heavy-duty engines from overheating. These adapters often replace the factory oil filter bypass.
The one I got for the build does have a built in thermostat that prevents over-cooling, speeds up engine warm-up, and protects oil viscosity ...

Did you end up bracing the bottom of the cooler too?

In order to keep a eye on the oil temp I installed a LED read-out for being in the know of the temp ..

It's mounted inside the glove box .. Just need to open the glove box door to take a peek ..
Was going to mount it on the dash somewhere, but the dash was getting way to busy already ..

Probably won't have much need for doing so cause of having a 9+ qt. oil capacity and the cooler ..
Mounted it on top of the standalone transmission controller, it too has a read-out for the trans temp ..

Trans fluid seen some overkill for heat control ..
Most likely the cooler made into the radiator would be enough to do the job ..

The fans are thematically controlled on the aux. trans cooler .. They come on at 185* and goes off at 165* fully auto ..

Keeping the radiator's cooler on line ..
Trans fluid first goes to the radiator then to the aux. cooler, piggyback so to speak ..
