Looking for suggestions: I replaced the belt on my 1989 GMC 2500 2WD 2500 because it was squealing. Less then 2500 miles later it's at it again. I put a stethoscope on the idlers and didn't hear anything unusual. My question is is there a known issue with the 454's that I should address that would cause this noise?

Thanks in advance!

I've posted pictures in the past, but I haven't been online in a while. Here's a shot with the studded winter tires. The rig is only run on weekends now, and that's just to exercise it. However, the first snow we get this will be out there!

Stock engine. Kicking around getting a K&N Filter kit. My next project is replacing the exhaust manifold gaskets which are leaking.

So 80's! Garnet interior in real good shape. Reasonably comfy, or so says the passengers.

Just had to pull down the overhead light console. All the bulb were corroded. Cleaned up all the contacts and now they work great.

What brand of belt did you install? I've had success eliminating noise by simply switching to Goodyear Gatorbacks.

Could it be a bad bushing in one of your accessories?

My Uncle had one of these when I was a kid, but I think his was 350 powered and I know it was a 3/4 ton 4x4 but the same color combination.

Thanks for your reply!

I installed a Gates belt. I had read that they were pretty good quality. I've never heard of Gatorback.

Could be, but I think I remember seeing paperwork from the PO showing it had been replaced. Is there a trick to testing the tension?

You know, it might be because it sounds more like a squeaking noise than a squealing noise from a belt now that I think of it. Are A/C compressors know to make noise because the noise does change when I turn the A/C on or off.

The noise would change because of the extra load the A/C puts on the system, I would not be surprised if its any of the accessories.
