Any one know if this unit will work in the late clusters with VSS speedos?

http://www.gmsports.com/content/new-tachometer-1973-1986-chevy-and-gmc-trucks

They say it is for 1986 and lower, but wondering if it would work in the late cluster for my 91 Burb. Would there be any mods or fabbing required to make it work? This is exactly what I want for my truck, but don't want to spend $200 without assurance that I can make it work.

I did post this same question to an existing thread, but didn't see any responses so I started a new one. Sorry!

Thanks,
Dave

I'd love to get my hands on one of them.

This guy managed to add a tach and retain his warning lights. Truck is a '90 K5.

1978-79 style tach has the place for 2 lights.

He did lose his voltage lamp and his DRL lamp. so no biggie.

Thanks guys. Glad to hear it will fit. Looks like on 1991 I just lose the fasten seat belt light and the brake light. No biggie on the seat belt and for the brake light I'm sure I can rig something up. The idea of using a tach from a late 70's is intriguing but I really need the one with the fuel gauge - the PO of my burb installed a trans temp gauge in the empty small hole and I would hate to lose that - he did a pretty nice job of it!

I used this gauge combo on my 78. For the brake light, I put an empty socket in the existing brake light location, and jumpered the back of the socket to the back of the socket for the CHOKE light position in the speedometer. Then I changed that half of the lens from the CHOKE lens to the BRAKE lens so it read right. The CHOKE light never lit on my truck, I don't think it's connected to anything. So I lost the FASTEN SEAT BELTS light and whatever the CHOKE light was, and kept the BRAKE light and the 4 WHEEL LOCK light.

Here's a write-up I did at the time on another forum.

I put one in my '73. use the factory gas gauge for the left tank and the gauge in the tach for the right tank. As I recall, I had to open up the back of the plastic gauge housing for the wire feeds.

I finally got this unit installed and it works great. I'll take a you tube vid and post the link here soon. For the brake like I had to get creative - I couldn't eliminate "Service Engine Soon" or "4 wheel drive" (well didn't want to) so I added a break light at the top of the dash in between speedo and tach. I think it's where the glow plugs light is for the diesels. I used the original lens for the brake light and I used one of the plastic structures that holds the light socket from my extra cluster which I glued on to back of the panel. Cut a hole in the panel to match and then I used a plastic bezel from a fog light switch on the outside to clean things up a little. It's a little hoaky, but it works.

Glad you got it to work! Can't wait to see pics or video. I'm hoping to do this to my 90 burb.
