Ok guys so iv reached that stage in my 6 year bugget restoration where i am putting my interior back together.

One thing i am worried about is the heating system, for somreason it kinda worries me that its gona be really hard to this to work but i am unsure.

When i took the interior apart i just took it apart. remember when i took the controler out of the dash there was like a wire going to it and a lever or somthing.
Question1. Does anyone have any pics of how the heater control goes together with that cable and what ever other parts are on it??

question 2. I am not sure if the heat works, i just it as a complete cab .
So should i change the heater core? is there a way to test if it should be replaced?

Question 3. IF i does need to be replaced..
How hard is it to change one on a cab with AC. mine is a 85 AC cab.

Thanks guys

Liam

The long cable(2-3")cable is attached to the control with a clip to the bottom slider lever, the other end is for the blend door. It opens the door for the a/c/heater(cool,heat) side. The wire is for the control illumination bulb, that kinda has a twist lock on the upper right hand corner of the control. As far as the heater core is concerned, I'd just put a new one in regardless. They are like $30, it'll save you alot of headaches later on, cause it hard to tell how good the existing one is, if at all. Putting it in is a major pain in the ARSE!!!!!!! I did it to my 86, using youtube videos as a guide, saved myself $400 in labor costs that the shop wanted, did it all in about 4 hours. Plus, use be proud of yourself after the fact for the accomplishment. I'll see if I can find the videos on youtube and post up the links for you to check them out.:grd:

Theres a sticky here right in the interior section. Click interior and you'll see a whole bunch of threads marked "sticky", I think its the 3rd one down.

I had no experience and with the how to I was able to replace the heater core no problem. I would say it is a no brainer to replace since you are restoring the truck. Lets say you don't and in a year or three it leaks all over your interior. The job is a major pita but if you take your time, easily doable.

If your truck has ac is it difficult to get to the bolts on the bottom of the evaporator. Some would say impossible without taking the inner fenders out. Go for it. I would say it took me about 2 hours once I got the evaporator off
