I had to replace the gas door on my 1980 K10 and just happen to have one from a 79 K2500 Suburban. The quality of part between the 79 and 80 was more than noticeable. the 79 gas door was much heavier and was attached with bolts where the 80 gas door was a lot lighter and attached with phillips pan head screws.

Was there this big a drop off between 79 & 80 in quality??

imho starting in the 80's gm started getting cheap, more dollars for the bottom line. they were also trying to save weight anywhere they could to meet fuel economy standards. the square bodies were still good trucks but when they changer the body styles in 88 and 92, they really no longer made simple, durable, and inexpensive trucks. their trademark for years was gone and will never come back. sad days indeed. highdesertrange
