I paid $105 for OER brand on classic Industries. I forgot the extra goodies like strainer socks, andanti-squeak kits. Waiting for the anti-squeak kit, bought one thinking it would do both tanks

Sure, pooky them up if you need to run it for a while, which you don’t. But there’s far more labor involved swapping the tank again than a new tank costs.
Plus, it doesn’t sound like you have the bedside/fuel filler and filler hoses figured out yet. And tank brackets and straps? Assuming the aftermarket tank didn’t run OE mounts?
Also note, the filler neck size changed at some point. So even if you can find the 80s filler and vent hoses to run to the OE filler door, they may not work with a 70s tank. Tanks are the same afaik but filler size changed.

If you’re fixing the bed or replacing the bed side, either way. And also removing/re-doing fuel tank, you’re going about it backwards.
Remove the bed first. Build a little stand for it and then the bed will be much easier to work on and so will the fuel tank(s).

cant do that i need the truck whole at the moment. remolding the house i need that bed. fuel tank mounts i can use the 77 mounts filler hole is same size but there is no filler door. i figger ill find anuter truck for around 4300 or so and go from there. these trucks are a dime a dozen here just got to wait till somebody's grandpa dies off then the kids will sell off everything cheap...found a 4x4 $900 bucks running it went quick 80's model chevy.......theres a step side 4x4 down in the tow yard $600 bucks guy said it ran thats been couple years ago truck is still there....
