GM put plastic covers on them.

They don't rust.

Oh it was plastic originally? I guess I just assumed it would be metal.

Could be either. Your vintage may have been tin, but GM did use plastic on a lot of them. Again, just a dust shield, and keeps things away from the circular saw.

Pretty sure ive still got one thats tin from a 700r4 also i will have to look again

Until this engine i never really had one on mine but the trans i bought had it so i painted it and threw it on. Both of the one i have are metal.

Well looking at the pics of when i tried selling my 700R no i dont have the cover. But thats not to say its not laying around someplace in my mix of parts.
