Hi all,

I really don't know much about exhaust and how it affects performance vs sound etc...

As of now I have a 85 K10 swb with 350 and 2 mufflers (not sure which ones) from previous owner. No pipes just the mufflers.

I didn't realize all that exhaust entails: performance/power/cats/headers/h pipe/y pipe/etc

I don't want to lose any power but I would like to reduce the noise I have going on.

Looking for a low grumble. Nothing fancy.

If I installed 2.5" pipe straight out the back from both mufflers would that be considered true duals?

Any advice is great and appreciated!!

Running the exhaust all the way out the back will quiet it down inside the cab. You can buy quieter mufflers as well. You don't have to worry about cats with an 85.

so if i were to run pipes from both of those mufflers out the back (or dumb to sides) that would be considered true duals?

any benefit to losing one muffler and going with a single?

That would not be considered dual exhaust then

Looks like you have true duals as is... If your pipes don't come together at a y connection you have true duals. For a low grumble I'd go straight to the back bumper longer the pipe the lower grumble given your mufflers are ment to provide the sound your after. All the research I've done says a crossover on a street driven vehicle won't reap the benefits.except a change in sound. @2500rpm the h pipe hinders flow.

Best exhaust for street use, on a stock motor, is a 2.5" Y-pipe, 3" single, one muffler all the way at the back. The OE engineers do a lot of math to get the most possible from a factory system, so look at what a new truck uses. They get 405 HP from a 6.2L gas motor and run a single exhaust. Why? It keeps torque up. That is the most important thing for a heavy daily driver.
My personal favorite is a 2.5" Y-pipe, to a 3" single, back past the cab, then split back to two 2.5" Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers, turned down ahead of the axle, or dual 2.5" out the back corners. Quiet at idle and around town. Nice low rumble when you put your foot down.
