I pulled the engine out of my 83 c1500 and the block numbers show it to be a 1968 327. The heads are from 1976 350. Can someone give me your thoughts on this combination?

That combination might be a little low on compression if using stock pistons.

Block = 68-69 327 2 bolt mains from a truck 250hp
Heads = 69-72 327,350 1.94 intake 1.5 exhaust

I would say its a stock 1969 327 with 1.94/1.5 valves and 2 bolt mains from a truck with aprox 250 HP

I would say its a keeper for a motor :) and quite a nice little find!

I would rock a 327, but not in my square due to being in CA and the smog crap. Maybe they wouldn't notice, but if they did who knows what they would say.

Thanks for the information. It also has a Eldebrock intake and carb. It looks like some work has been put into it.

Yeah I'm glad I don't have to mess with all of those Cali regs!

I have not tore into it that much yet to tell you what pistons. Looking at all of the other mods on it, I would be willing to bet the pistons are probably not stock.

A stock 250 hp engine is real good performance! I wouldn't worry about the compression lol. Its not a swap and swap setup. Its stock.

Probably does have a cam and maybe even flat top pistons. might even have a custom thickness head gasket.

If it looks like its in good shape with 100psi or better for compression, I would just run it and see how it is.

Maybe take off a bearing cap and look for oil starvation and wear. but if its good and compression checks out I would just run it.

If it looks good maybe think about installing a new high volume oil pump and adjusting the valve lash. Depending on the mileage maybe a new timing chain.

Always make sure the pick up for the oil pump is installed properly with maybe even a tack weld to keep it in place. If you can move the pick up by hand then it is not secure.

PS if you have it out on an engine stand I and it checks out and your gonna just run at least spend the $75-100 on a complete gasket kit and redo all the gaskets properly. ITs a real PITA to put it back in and end up with oil leaks lol.

If I find a good runner I redo all gaskets and paint it up nice before sticking it in.

The aluminum intakes require Felpro # 1256 for the intake to seal properly

I do have it out on a stand. My plan is to do a compression check and go from there. I will definitely take your advise on the paint and all new gaskets. i am planning on replacing the cheap chrome valve covers with Eldebrock Aluminum. The truck is being painted right now, frame off.
