I have a strange situation. My dome light was working as it should. I disconnected the cigarette lighter and capped off the wire due to replacing it with a USB dongle. Now the dome light comes on when the doors are shut and turns off when either door is open. Is it a coincidence? Did I blow a fuse when I removed the lighter assembly or by capping off the lighter wire did it interfere with the dome light and reverse the ground? All comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Almost sounds as though you have the leads on the dongle reversed.

The USB dongle just hooks up to the radio. The wire that was powering the lighter was capped off.

There is a connection between them. When I've popped the lighter fuse the dome light comes on. It's bad enough when you're driving a pickup, because you can reach up, take off the cover and try to flick out the bulb. And I do mean flick. Those fuggers will remove your fingerprints. Another reason to switch to LEDs.

It's worse in a suburban because no matter how much I stretch I can't reach that rear light.

So yes, check the fuse.

I had quickly looked at the fuses and didn't see any that had blown but after closer inspection it was the fuse. All good now. Thanks!

I've never looked at a schematic to figure out why, but experience has been a teacher. I'm glad you got it fixed.
