I have been trying to start my truck with Chevy 350 with a Accel HEI dist but Im not getting fire to plugs, I checked power to dist at little over 12 ams, but when trying to crank it drops to between 8 and 9 volts, is this enough to still fire off,

Did this truck ever have points? Or something swapped out?

Are you using the original points wire? Because it will not feed full 12v to the distributor.

The points wire is meant to only give 7-8v on startup.

1983 would have been an HEI distributer. There is either a wiring problem or a weak cell in the battery.

Checked battery good, I ran a 12v wire to dist, the dist started firing, so its not the dist., but Im getting a voltage drop from the ign switch to the dist, checked wires leading from under column and I get the same voltage drop under dash, could it be the ign. switch
