Difference between 4l80e bolted to a diesel and a gas?

I was just informed that a co-worker is selling his 1993 chevy 1ton cus he dented up the body and wants to upgrade. Its a tweeked 6.5l turbo with a 4l80e reman with 7000 miles on it, he showed me the paper work too. But we would just beat it up on the farm till i wanted the tranny for the crew. I googled my question and come up with mixed reviews. Is there a difference?

I know 93 was the last year for mechanical 6.5

I believe that's the one you want because it has the stand alone computer so you don't have to modify it to work in your truck or buy a different controller.
