I repinned the cluster on my 1987 chevy v20 Scottsdale and now the alternator doesn't kick on. Do I need to put a dummy light in line with the brown wire coming from the alternator?

Ok, I spiced a 194 bulb and socket between the two brown wires. The bulb lights up when I start the truck, but doesn't go out and I'm not getting more than 12v out of the alternator

I know that one side goes to the alternator and the other side goes to the heater fuse. Which is not blown.

This is the diagram I used when i rewired my ‘91, I also used this AC Delco plug.

The bulb (resistor) is always on while it’s running.

My 87 still has the 2 wire plug and I'm getting power back to the brown wire at the alternator

I had to rewire mine almost from scratch using that diagram, mine charges around 14v now. Aside from lighting, I don't really have any of the original engine or dash harness left though so it was easier than tying it into the real harness.
