I have a guy who says he has a bumper guard that will work for the 73-80 trucks. He sent me a few pics and this is one of it sideways.

Can I get a professional opinion on if this will work? It also looks like its wider than a normal one.

Well there's some '73-'80 trim laying there with it, so that's a good sign. Looks like it has the notches for the optional bumper rub strips that were available in the late 70's.

Bumper rub strips? You mean bumperettes?

Nope, they were horizontal plastic trim strips, one on each side of the bumper. Similar to the style that was also optional in the 80's.

OOOOOOOH I know what you mean. The vertical strips you more commonly see especially on the later trucks like the GMT400s.

Looks like it was made for the later style bumpers. Would probably work with the early style with a little modification.

So I'm not sure if this thing will work on the truck or not. The guy gave me the measurements today and he says it measures 31 3/4" outside to outside. If my measurements are correct this means the thing is almost as wide as the grill itself.

Will take some measurements tonight when I get home.

That's not as important as the measurements between bolt holes. Have him measure the mounting tabs center to center. Doesn't matter if it's 2 feet wider than the truck as long as it bolts up.
