I tried searching, but really only found mentions to 6.5 and wider rims. I have a 1983 c10 Suburban Silverado has the original stock (6" rims) I believe. 235/75/15 tires currently on it. Id really like to go ja bit wider 255-265 width if possible but either my searching sucks or its not feasible since i couldn't find posts on anyone doing it. I just feel like the 235 are so narrow and small and look awkward from the front/back of the suburban, along with not a lot of contact patch for grip. I thought about trying the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S at 265/75R15, since that was the only listed wider size they have, but worried that may be a bit to wide for 6" rims? Open to safe opinions and suggestions. I am trying to avoid investing in purchasing wider rims but maybe Its a requirement accommodate wider tires?

The size is generally stamped on the inside of the rim.
Personally I wouldn’t go any wider than a 235 maybe 245 on a 6” wheel in that general height of tire.
That said wider tires will stay on the rims guys run 285s on 6.5 GM wheels all the time. But the tires are taller and have a bit more sidewall height generally.
Have to run them on the soft side to keep tire wear even across the tread and not ballooning.
However that also isn’t a deal breaker unless you’re trying to extract max treadlife out of a tire.

Ah ok I will check the rims i had looked but not very close and just assumed nothing was there. tys for the info. i may just have to get the rims upgraded to a wider size. I just hate how narrow these 235's look .

Here’s a 275 /15 Cobra on a 6 1/2“ ralley
it does bulge the sidewall a little.. I think a 255 would work just fine

That isn't bad at all i mean if 275 looks like that on 6.5 i can't imagine 265 would be much worse on 6 would it? I haven't had much luck in finding 255 stuff for 15" vs 265 oddly. I mean my suburban only gets used to go camping maybe 500-1000 miles a year if that. and only carrying tent camping stuff in the back not towing like a big ole air streamer ect.

Sidewall height makes a difference. The taller the sidewall, the more tread width you can get away with and have good wear.

A 255/70 would work well.

YEa a co-worker who runs a mechanic shop that I just reached out to just told me 255/70r/15 would work well and i wouldn't run into any issues. told me General, Yokohama and BF goodrich all have tires in these sizes so looking over what my options are in these. Appreciate the recommendations from people here.
