Not sure if still relevant to this thread, but another example on an 86 K5...

I believe the switches run aux lights:

I'll take any ideas I can get here to fill those AC vents in with a useful mod. :)

I really am leaning towards sticking that big tach in like in that test fit up I posted up there. I also have a set of air gauges with the control switches for an air compressor system and side to side leveling valves for rear shocks or bags that may fit close into one of those vents too. I'll have to dig them up and take some pics.

I would take the one out just above the ash tray, take something and seal off the bottom, (fiber glass, or some wire mesh) and turn it into a holder for like a Cell phone or I-pod something like that. The one just right of the steering wheel, I would put my gauges, or something like that there.
