I have a 2000 2wd with 5.3l and the truck is nearing retirement (285,000 miles, body damage).
I also have a 1980 SWB 4x4 with a 350, 700 tranny, commander 950 TBI injection, 7in lift, 37" tires. Motor smoking\needing work.
I've been toying with the idea of yanking the 5.3 out and swapping into my older truck after giving it a fresh rebuild. Biggest thing I'm unsure of is if I should stick with my current 700 tranny or upgrade to an electronic tranny/transfer from a newer truck. What do you guys think would be the better way to go? Thanks
