The stock front axle is probably a closed knuckle setup, making an axle swap about the easiest thing to do for better front brakes.

6 lug with 4.10 is a tough combo to find. If you don't want to regear an axle, you will need to find one that's already been done. Or get an axle from a K20 with 4.10 and also pick up a nearly worthless 3.08 geared 6-lugger to steal all the parts needed to convert the K20 axle to 6 lug.
That's what I meant earlier about the ratio being the hard part. I know there were at least a dozen here locally in 77 & 78 as I was customizing new trucks for resale then and that's how I ordered them. One of those surfacing would be ideal. I have found a couple over the years but all managed to evade me. I believe there's one hiding out here in the Rockies just waiting for me.lol
