I have a friend that is thinking about swaping a 4.2 from a Trailblazer into something. He was saying that they come stock with 270hp/270tq in 02 and got upped to 295/275 in 05 or 06...

So it got me thinking... Would this be a good swap into a K5 Blazer as a replacement for a 305? I'd try to find a newer one but I think the 270hp is still more then the 305 makes.

Yeah, he bought a 02 Trailblazer and took out the engine, trans and related items. And is in search of a small Rwd car to put it in. He's wanting something thats less then 3000lbs because hes going to use it as a drag car.

would be more than enough, i would run 3.73 gears. Remember these trucks tooted along just fine with 155 hp, and 265 ft lbs tq.

Jim, I didn't know what kind of hp a stock 305 or 350 had. I was guessing about 175-200 so I figured 270 would be a good jump.

My friend also said that the computer is on the motor so it has less wires running everywhere. And the 4L60E trans. He said he was going to get the trans tuned for better shifting and run the engine stock for now untill he can find a way to turbo it.

Sounds like a great plan. Those HP and Tq figures were what my 86 350 was putting out from the factory. Non California was 165HP, then they jumped to 210 in 87.
