4 wheel drive stuck won't go back into 2 wheel drive

Hi guys I wanted to test my 4 wheel drive in my 87 k5 blazer Silverado and I go out lock hubs put it in 4 high seem fine then I try my 4 low seemed fine then I wanted to put it back into 2 wheel drive then I went out to unlock my hubs then I tried to put it back into 2 wheel drive it would only go from 4 low to 4 high wouldn't want to go back all the way down to 2 wheel drive is it because I need to be in neutral and not park or I need to change transfer case fluid?

I've always switched back and forth with the engine running and trans in neutral.

My own is like skysurfer's. It will not go into 2WD while in park, I have the best luck with the engine running, truck at a slow roll, tranny in neutral, then slide 'er into 2WD.
