I'm very new to all these codes, the title on my truck says v30,as far as all the other codes out there it's just confusing the hell out of me, especially for gmt400, I appreciate any help trying to figure this out

One of the earlier post explains some of it. The C/K truck line was introduced in 73 and ran basically until 1987. They are mainly what you see on the forum. Square body Blazers, Suburbans, Crew and chassis cabs continued until 1991.
C (or R)= 2WD
K (or V)= 4WD
10 = 1/2 ton
20 = 3/4 ton
30 = 1 ton

In 1988, GM replaced the square body for most of the pick up line see photo below. The R/V designation started in 1987 with the beginning of fuel injection. You said your truck has a carb. Personally I've never seen an '88 with one, but I know GM was using them on the motor home P30 chassis. My dad purchased a new P30 based motor home in 1991. I know they stopped by carburetors by 1990 as my dad's chassis was a 1990 and that had fuel injection.

Wow that's really great information thank you, all I can do is post a couple pictures of the truck,I know it's a tough one to figure out.I even called to get insurance on it and insurance company can't really figure it out either

What makes it a GMT and not a square body?
Look at the pics above. They are basically 2 completely different trucks from the ground up, save for the commonality of drive trains. Up to 87 was same basic chassis since 73 (or up to 91 in Blazers Burbs and duallys). 88 and up = totally new chassis, body, interior, etc.

If you are asking if yours is a square or not.... look at it. Does it look like a square or does it look like a GMT-400? Post #18 is a GMT-400, post #19 is a square. They look completely different and are easy to identify.

From the 1988 model year and onward, C/K was re-used for the fourth-generation "GMT400" design"

So there's some overlap in 3500 models between C&C, pickups (89 dually reg and ext cab are GMT400s pretty sure, but they also still made 1 ton crew cab squarebodys until 91).
Are you sure your's is a straight frame truck or just a pickup truck without a pickup bed?
Because if it's a 89 1 ton 4th gen, it shouldn't be a crew cab and it shouldn't be a C&C. But it could be a 1989 1 ton dually reg cab or ext cab pickup.

Are you sure your's is a straight frame truck or just a pickup truck without a pickup bed?
Because if it's a 89 1 ton 4th gen, it shouldn't be a crew cab and it shouldn't be a C&C. But it could be a 1989 1 ton dually reg cab or ext cab pickup.

Mine is a 1989 K3500 cab and chassis single wheel with IFS and TBI. It was not just a pick-up truck with bed removed. I've always assumed it was a GMT-400 but I've had several people tell me it's a square body which is the source of my confusion. Here's the picture of it

As to C&C or P/U, does it say somewhere it was originally a C&C? Or maybe just ordered with bed delete?
CnC trucks would have a straight frame in back. Is yours curved over the axles or straight?
Doesn’t matter though. It’s a truck and it’s a GMT 400

Not entirely correct.
In 1988 you could still buy a 2 door square body pickup with two provisions.
It had to be a 4x4 and R05 dual rear wheels.
My 1988 V30 regular cab pickup built May 1988 in the Janesville plant.
Always asked for 1987 K30 when at parts store.

^Interesting. Cool either way. IMO, GMT 400s are still about the most reliable truck out there with a good blend of modern convienence, good ride and old school simplicity.
That truck looks like a great wheeler and woods rig.
