New to the forum and looking for advice...I recently purchased a K20 (diesel) which I'm planning on converting to a 454. There is a running 350 SBC sitting in the truck now, but I like the idea of putting in the GM Work Horse! What do I need to look out for, need to be aware of changing and if you feel strongly...why I shouldn't do this?

A carb'd 454 is basically a bolt in quick swap for a running 350. Motor mounts are cheap, so I would buy the correct 454 mounts, they are different than the 350 ones. Other than that, you just unbolt the trans bellhousing and torque converter bolts, put a strap under the front of the trans to hold it up, unbolt the two motor mount through bolts, unhook the fuel lines from the mechanical pump, unhook the electrical wires and yank her out. It is easier if you remove the hood and core support too. Its an easy weekend job if you take your time and aren't in a hurry. Its an afternoon job if you are in a rush.
