I'd like to see how that KC4 option mounts as I am assuming it is an aux cooler behind the grille - ?

If there is no option listed on the SPID label, it has the standard ratio for the power team. A 1978 K10 with LF4/MX1 would have come with a 3.07. It would have a GT4 RPO if it has 3.73(which was the tallest gears available for that power team). A K20 would have come with a 3.73 standard and didn't actually have any other rear end option for that power team.

I finally got my 327 installed in my 1979 C-10 big ten. Hoping to get the drag strip next week and I have a few questions for the experts.

1. 350 non air, turbo 350, 12 bolt open rear end, typically what gears could this truck have?
2. Does anyone make light weight drag race wheels for this 5 lug truck, I want 15X3.5 on the front, and 15X10 on the rear?

Standard rear end for that power team would be 3.07. It could have optionally been equipped with a 3.40(RPO HE4) or 3.73(RPO GT4) If you want to know what options were factory equipped, you can send your VIN# and $50 to the GM heritage center and they will send you the complete ordering and invoice package from when your vehicle was ordered, built, and shipped to the original dealer.

I checked out the video. Looks like a healthy amount of tq from the 327. I have one in my garage. I think I’ll borrow his specs some day.


I had a 327 bored to 331 I was working on about 3 years ago, was considered a "small journal" 327, had a little more throw on the crank. It was built with + dish pistons, and vortec heads.

Cannot recall the cam specs, but it was ideally setup to be high winding little bastard with roller components.

The whole idea was a 350-450 HP 327 that ran a damn near dangerous c/r. Came up with something in the ball park of 11-12:1.

I never got it hear it run personally, I sold it off to a friend who was putting together a 23 T bucket, th400 behind it, narrowed 9" with solid spool and fat, meaty tires.

I wanna say he started out with a 750 cfm carb, but it was running WAY to lean.

Ended up at a 1050 on top, thing ran like a champ. It was retardly dangerous though, especially in that little light weight buggy. He had some sort of long tube headers on it. Little bastard would wind up to 7 or so.

iirc, he ended up twisting the frame in the t bucket, sold the whole rig off to someone else.
I kinda regret getting rid of that 327. I just didn't have a vehicle for it at the time.

Thanks. The truck has a open 3.07 gear, I haven't changed it yet because I want to tune as much out of it as I can, plus I drive it a lot. My next move is re drilling the rotors for car rims and tires, then maybe a aluminum drive shaft.

Thats pretty. My 78 big ten was a 12 bolt 3:07 and is now a 10 bolt 3:42 posi.
