yep that looks like what im goin to hafta do od trans and gears if i go nv4500 and 3.54:1 with 33's i can run 85 at 2200rpm, just about perfect 75 at 1900 rpm. so i would be right in the sweet spot all the time... dam gears are expensive though

I think you're barking up the wrong tree here. You're not in a 3000lb, low to the ground passenger car. Noway in hell you'll improve your fuel economy with 3.54's and an OD trans. The OD trans might do the trick, but I'd keep the 4.10's and a 33in tire, or possibly 35in tire. I'll assure you with that much weight and wind drag, you'll actually get better mpg with 4.10s than 3.54's. Don't get yourself hung up in the myth that lower rpm means better mpg. Its simply not true. You need to take all things into consideration. A passenger car get by with that, but not a higher profile truck and espeically a 1 ton dually turning the mass of 6 wheels and heavier frame weight. Keep your diff as is, and just convert to NV4500 and that's gonna be the best combo you can get.

oh yeah i understand that its less about gas milage and more about rpm and engine life i realy dont like running 3000 rpm all day and i realy dont like gettn all kinds of greif on the highway for goin 55-60 lol and i agree my current gears are great (not to mention to change them cost just as much as a nv4500) i know this isnt ever going to be like my old mc (3.08 gears od trans 33's) that would cruise at 120 all day long and knock down 22 mpg's lol but i might as well atleast be able to roll with he newer trucks/cars in normal driving obviously i would never try to race a 1 ton lol hmmmm will 33s fit without lift? would go outside and measure but i threw my back out grrrr wait i didnt even think about this do they make 33's or 35's for heavy towing?

I agree you want your engine in the optimum rpm range at your normal highway cruise speed. If that's 70 mph you want your rpms between 2,000-2,500. If you try to go lower than that the transmission will be doing more lock/unlock/downshifting/upshifting that it wont be beneficial to your gas mileage or the mileage you'll get out of your trans before something goes wrong with it.

Don't take this the wrong way, but your driving an old one ton truck and your complaining about gas mileage? Don't get me wrong, I love driving my 3/4 ton, but damn does it drink gas! Take all this money you are talking about putting into your truck and buy a cheap Honda.

19.5 rims can be had off of the 1988-2000 GMT400 body style 3500HD trucks.

An example would be from a 90's state highway truck. My FIL has 19.5's on his truck. Another would be from a motorhome, they also use 19.5's.

IMO you would be better off staying with your 16" or 16.5" wheels you currently have. The reason is if you can find a 35" tire for a 19.5 it will more then likely be more money for 1 then it would be to buy 2 35 12.50 16's.

BTW I prefer to have a cruise rpm at about 2500-2800,
