    87' TBI timing question

I am not too familiar with what cams are appropriate with TBI but I have seen RV mild cams run without issue.

    87' TBI timing question

The most I ever went was two degrees base timing with the advance unplugged. I may have some tinkering to try once I get the EGR squared away on Silvy.

    87' TBI timing question

Wouldn't setting it that high make the timing at idle close to 20 or more degrees? I wonder why GM calls for 0 degrees then. I may try this on Silvy.

    87' TBI timing question

Are you using a timing light? You can spend all day trying to fiddle with a TBI style distributor but the computer will offer a certain degree of curve adaptation if it is off. On a engine with a blown head gasket between cylinder 4 and 6, we retarded the timing back to 2 degrees BTDC with the...

    SBC Cold Start

Even if the choke is wide open a couple of pumps and it should fire immediately and then stall. If the fuel is leaking down from the carburetor back to the tank it is either the fuel pump or it is pulling air in from somewhere. Generally we see it in the rust belt from dry rotten rubber lines...

    New Suburban, Some Questions

I found the idle issues to be caused by a faulty coolant temperature sensor. Still have a power steering leak to figure out and my AC compressor makes noise even when off. Can I oil the compressor?

    AC Compressor Making a Racket

I just brought home a Suburban which had its AC system converted to R-134 back in 2002. The guy who owned it before me had it for a year and said the compressor belt was off when he got it. I installed new belts and threw one on the AC compressor and to my pleasant surprise it worked! However...

    New Suburban, Some Questions

I found that the middle is a vent port. The one with the cut hose goes to the fuel tank so I will replace that hose right away. I have to do a new tranny pan gasket, tail shaft seal, oil cooler line, power steering line, and a few other things before she is ready for daily driving.

    New Suburban, Some Questions

So I should just take the hose and ask for a replacement? What should the middle connector on my charcoal canister go to?

    New Suburban, Some Questions

Hello! On Saturday night I brought home my first vehicle, a 1987 GMC Suburban R2500. After getting it home I found some leaks and issues I must resolve. The first has to do with the charcoal vapor canister. Looking at the top I only have two of the three hoses attached. On left hose, I have a...
