    Backlash is consistently .006” and yes still using setup bearings with all original shims that came off in the first place

    Pinion was under tension, i torqued everything down before i ran it and backlash was .06” when i checked it multiple spots and times. The extra did wear off on two other spots on the ring gear if that would be helpful to you guys, or are you suggesting to re apply in a different spot and run again?

    Okay thanks for clarifying, I will check the pattern tomorrow as I don’t have many measuring tools other than the borrowed verniers I have now. But I will still measure that stuff for piece of mind and to learn how to do it all.

    dumb question but could further explain what you mean by the bearing cap being half the race diameter, I didn’t see that in the videos I watched so I’ve got no clue what you mean by that. I did verify the plate was actually .250 and will do it the marking compound way after school tomorrow.

    I was using a 1/4 plate accross the house and using verniers to measure then subtracting the 1/4” from the measurement. This was just the way I was told to do it and then do the whole marking compound method.

    I’m doing a rebuild on a g80 10 bolt that I got for cheap, throwing in 3.73 gears and this is my first time doing it. I’m at the point now where I’m setting my pinion depth and the number it calls for is 4.257, the closest I can get is 4.555 and that’s with way too many shims. Good chance this...

    Okay, will go over it again tonight. And just for learning purposes if the pushrod wasn’t spinning that would mean the lifter is collapsed?

    I rotated about 30 degrees at a time tightening each rocker until resistance and continued until they all had no play and then did 3/4 of a turn in on each. Probably did two full rotations to ensure they all had a bit of resistance when rolling the pushrod in my fingers.

    I was adjusting by tightening until there was a a bit of drag when spinning the pushrod and then 3/4 of a turn in after that, if I remove a rocker and pushrod I should be able to see the top of the lifter right?

    I bought an additive for the lifter noise with a detergent and also did about 400ml of atf, so basically a quart or trans oil. But no luck with that yet

    I tried adjusting it while running but made the noise the entire time, I just hear it from that rocker but I can’t be sure it’s that, I took the rocker off and everything looked good too

    It sounds to me like #7 and I’m pretty confident it’s coming from there after hearing it run with it off but will check the little things before ripping it apart
