Good wire for repairs and/or rewiring circuits?

Hey Folks, I've been getting along doing repairs using the contents of the scrap wire box in my garage until now. Need to buy a few spools of bulk wire. I haven't actually bought automotive (or marine or aviation) wire in decades. Any recommendations on material (good or bad)? I'm also...

HIT THE IGN. KEY AND NOTHING

Similar problem on mine. Had it towed home, set up to do a whole crapload of diagnostics (bumped somestuff around in the process) and, bang, it started. Turned out the green starter wire came loose from the firewall connector on the engine side. Cleaned up that area, reinstalled the wire, no...

    Headlight switch power and meltdown

Hmm, would adding a diode to the red, unfused battery, wire help prevent this kind of damage?

    Dumbo mirror spring clip

But I am still interested in parts. My mirrors are in pretty good shape. Would be a shame to discard them over one or two little parts.

    Dumbo mirror spring clip

Heh, I just checked LMC for replacement mirror assemblies and the price is within reach. Can anyone comment on the quality of these? Looking for replacement parts and replacing rivets may be more work than its worth. Thanks, -Mark

    Dumbo mirror spring clip

Pulled a mirror to clean it and replace gasket. Spring clip is rusted past use. I haven't been able to find one online. Either unobtainium or I'm searching the wrong thing. Ideas?

Old man constantly asked to drop his truck.Any stock height C10s left in the world??

Stock height, stock rally rims. No interest in changing. I can reach the middle of the bed from the side of the truck. Part of what put me back in an SB after 45 years.

    Rattle noise from A/C compressor

Similar problem on my 86. I thought it was a compressor or more serious issue. After reading this post, I inspected for missing parts, loosened all PS and AC related belt tension bolts, then tensioned belts and torqued bolts. Rattle is gone (so far). Posted notes and photos because the 86 is...

86 c10 No click, no start. Fixed.

Posted here to help someone else perhaps. The short of it: Check the purple wire at the firewall connector, driver's side, under the wiper motor (big square connector with a bunch of wires coming out). It might be loose. The long of it: Had my truck towed home due to no-click, no-start. I...

What new tools have you got lately?

@Camar068 , just search "DeWalt 18v to 20v adapter", a bunch will come up. I'm standardized on DeWalt because my employer was (I'm retired now)...and their shop is about a mile from my house. Plenty of batteries and tools to borrow if need be.

What new tools have you got lately?

Not rattly at all. It's official DeWalt and fits pretty tight. I can't find the original on Amazon. Looks like they've replaced it with one that includes a USB adapter. Costs a little more. Looks there are now a lots of clones for less money, YMMV.

What new tools have you got lately?

DeWalt sells a battery adapter for the old tools. I bought one and use it with garage/estate sale finds. The investment has save me a bunch of money on tools.

Connect phone to factory AM radio

Or use bone conduction headphones like these https://shokz.com/products/openrun Ears are open so you have situational awareness, sound is good, mic has good noise cancellation. Work well for me. Good in the shop too....

First time replacing intake manifold gaskets

Make sure you mark cylinder 1 wire on the cap and you know the firing order so the wires go back on in the right places. Rotor turns clockwise. I got a couple wires swapped on mine recently. Motor ran, but ugly. I'm always amazed at the resilience of these motors when I make a mistake like...

Tool tip: Retired medical suction unit for vacuum testing and liquids

Hey Folks, Just a quick note on something that has proven really helpful for me: A portable medical suction unit. I got this one because it has some issues that prevent it from being used for medical purposes any more. It has a dial control for the amount of suction (in mmHg) and tops out...

86 C10 H-code needs a new distributor, recommendations? anything to avoid at all cost?

Update: * New Proform distributor arrived * Pulled old one and compared (photos attached) - All the parts of the old one are beefier but I don't see anything too objectionable * Looked deeper into the old one and discovered the vac advance wasn't working either... * Installed new one, set...

86 C10 H-code needs a new distributor, recommendations? anything to avoid at all cost?

Thanks guys. I ordered the extra weights and springs kit in case adjustments are necessary. $7, hard to say no. Planning to run off ported vacuum so not too worried. Will get a stop kit if I need to change to manifold vac. Appreciate the input, -M PS: this is all pre-work for a carb...

86 C10 H-code needs a new distributor, recommendations? anything to avoid at all cost?

Appreciate the input! I started down that path and managed to lose a couple of small parts, dagnabbit! Ordered a Proform from summit. I don't have a lot of $$$ in this truck and can afford some new parts for reliability. Based on what I've read, I'll have a good look at the new one...

86 C10 H-code needs a new distributor, recommendations? anything to avoid at all cost?

More sorting out the truck's situation. While trying to set base timing I noticed some odd behavior. Each time I tested it (before setting), I'd get something different (vac advance disconnected). The an old Mallory 8548201 that they don't seem to acknowledge any more. A look under the cap...

86 C10 LE9 w/ YDR emissions sticker, need help to ID 2 items

PO has changed a bunch of stuff on my truck and I'm trying to make sure I have my head wrapped around how it was originally. I've found descriptions of everything on this sticker except: the H and J carb ports. Both route to the EGR/PURGE/TCC TVS and I'm unclear what those ports are. My guess...

Please ID this part of the throttle linkage - [Solved, many thanks]

Feel like I should've known this. Reviewed all my books and dug around here and on the 'net. Guess I'm using the wrong search keys. It's clear that it affects the throttle closing but I'm not sure which (if not multiple) systems it works with: AC, Emissions, and/or run quality. The vacuum...
