Need a inline fuel pump for Carbed 350, what brand/ part?

My mechanical new pump on my 79 with original 350 is not working out. I’ve read several comments on the unreliability of electric pumps so would like to know if there’s a good pump I could use. I’m planning on mounting it after the tank. Inside the rail. Also, it seems to me those pushrods...

    31 gallon tank conversion pictures

I took out my dual tanks and put this 75 Suburban tank in between the frame channels just behind the cab. A guy at the wrecking yard said I could put a 72 tank behind the seat but I can use that space for storage. The sending unit that was in the tank works fine with my gauge.

Can’t decide on single or dual tanks

One of my dual tanks in my 79 K20 developed a rust leak while I had it out cleaning it up, replacing the sender. So I thought this would be a good time to swap both tanks for a single and I got a 31 gallon tank from a 75 Suburban. Both type senders should work with the gauge as both are 95...

Does my 79 have a fuel filter in unit?

I replaced the fuel pump in my 79 K20 350 and it’s not pumping gas so I tried pumping frim both tanks separately with an electric pump but still got no gas, both tanks have gas, one is almost full. The service manual says to clean the filter on the sending / pickup unit if it’s out, but before I...

Manual choke for a 350 quadrajet

The electric choke on my quadrajet didn’t work when I bought it, the butterfly valve is too loose. I’ve put manual choke cables on other carbs before but I’m not so sure it would work on this one, as I tried choking it by putting a small vise grips on the lip of the barrel, stopping up the...

    SM465 X 2.5 gears

If I replace my 4:10 differential gears with 2.5s, I think I get the same engine-to-wheel ratio as a lot of five speed manuals or 4 speed automatics. Id still have low from the NP205 transfer case. I’ve got a 1979 3/4 ton with a 14 bolt rear end. I’ve heard of swapping in 3.73s, has anyone...

    Rear disc conversion plumbing fyi

Doing my 14 bolt disc conversion I kept wondering why everybody was saying I needed to use hoses at the calipers’ banjo fitting. I considered going to the wreckers to find a banjo fitting with a few inches of 3/16 tube on it, to flare for a brake ( inverted flare) fitting. But a search...

    Brake pedal shaft removal

My 79 brake pedal needs new bushings but the shaft, which also has the clutch pedal on it, hits the big clutch spring when I slide it back. The shaft is actually a bolt and the bolt head hits the spring. Can’t get the spring to come off, I pulled on it with vice grips but it’s stronger than I...

    Brake pedal shaft removal

My 79 brake shaft needs new bushings, so I took the crush nut off the shaft that the clutch and brake pedals attach to, but the shaft can’t move back the 3” I need it to move, to get the brake pedal off, because it hits the big clutch spring. I tried putting vice grips on the end of that...

    Axle won’t go back in

79 full float GM 14 bolt, took one axle out to work on the brakes and now it’s not going back in. Stops about three inches back, about the length of the splines. Been trying pushing down and in at the same time, no luck. Rotate it often. Any suggestions greatly appreciated

How to measure 14 bolt drum?

How are drums measured? I thought inside. But the ID on my 14 bolt is only 11” and when I got rotors for the front they gave me 13” because they said my rear brakes were 13”. Trying to order from Rick Auto, which has no phone help. They have 11 and 13” drums. Mine are 13 1/2 OD Thanks

Upgrade master cylinder with a disc brake conversion?

When doing a conversion to disc brakes is it a good idea to go to a later model master cylinder/booster that served four disc brakes? I’ve been watching some YouTube videos on the swap and only heard one comment on it, he changed out his old master/booster for a later model one. I thought I...

    Leaf springs need help

I just got a 79 K20 4x4 that rides like a boat and looks like a two wheel drive. It’s had a tough life hauling hay on bumpy roads. I’d like to just get it back to original, but don’t know whether to trust the suppliers on what to get, or get some more springs from a yard and just add some...

Pictures of NV4500 to NP261 adapter

My first attempt at posting pictures so don’t know if they’re going to show. Im curious to know why there are 2 gears inside this adapter, and why they’re engaged full time ( it seems to me) with the main shaft. Don’t see any shifter on them. Thanks

need help ordering from Advanced Adapters

I spoke with a guy at Advanced Adapters about what I need to install a NV4500 into my 79 Chevy. I want the bell housing with the mechanical clutch linkage setup. But they want $630 for their adapter to the NP205 transfer case. Has anyone tried using a later T case with the NV4500? I had a...

    Dana44 axle sounds bad

I just replaced the long axle on my Dana 44 with one from the wrecker’s and putting the hub together noticed when the axle engag s and turns it sounds like it’s not engaging at the gears much at all. Sounds bad. The wheel bearings are tight, and the axle went back in with no problem. Is there...

    NV4500 years?

I’m calling around for a Chevy NV4500, and one wrecker said the earlier ones from 93 or 94 to about 99 were non electric and from 99 on, about 07, they had electronics. I’d like to know, how electrified are those later models, and can they be converted to non electric? Thanks in advance

    Another front diff ID Q

I just read hotrodPM’s helpful sticky on IDing front diffs. It says from 79 on, the 2500’s were GM corporate ten bolts. Mine is a 79 2500. But I’ve read that Dana’s are “ stamped” with a 44 or 60 facing the the T case. And mine has a 44.8 forged not stamped onto that rear, between webs...

Do U joints have to align in any way

I just put a new carrier bearing on my 79 K20 and realized I didn’t note if the three U joints aligned in any way, does it matter whether they are parallel to each other? Or maybe the least parallel is best? I not marked the position of the rear one on it’s differential so am hoping there’s...
