    81 C10 383 stroker stinks

If it stinks then something is wrong. You say its not rich but it probably is. Cars back in the 60's 70's did not run as clean as modern ones but they did not stink. They always ran a little rich when cold because of the choke but once the choke opens they can be very "clean" running. You...

Finding engine year off engine code?

Those manifolds were definitely used on trucks. My 85 K5 Blazer had them.

Finding engine year off engine code?

What is the block casting number on the back right near the distributor ? A lot of people dont realize it but there were actually carbureted versions up until 1988. Thats probably what it is.

To Gasket, or not to Gasket?

I have never heard of only RTV on a big block Chevy engine for valve covers. Oldsmobile did it on some late model engines but the valve covers had little bumps to space them away from the head the correct distance. On Big Block Chevys its either a traditional cork or rubber gasket or on the...

    Camshaft input from experience.

If it was me I would put the Howards in it but then again I dont care how it sounds, only in how it runs. Realistically 99% of street engines never even see 4500 rpm. Having an rpm range that goes to 6000 is a waste. You will "feel" the lower rpm power gains but you really never "feel" the...

    Will this fit that??

It looks like the Caddy engine has a hydraulic roller cam as compared to yours being flat tappet. I dont know if there is enough difference in the cam specs that your ecm shouldnt be able to compensate ? Otherwise it should all bolt in and hook up ok. Worse case you might have to swap the...

    Engine oil cooler hoses

Just make sure they aren't Dorman lines in the LMC box :( Would not surprise me.

    Camshaft input from experience.

What i tell my customers is that those two really do not go together that well :( If you talked to Eric at Howards I would feel very comfortable listening to what he suggests.

    Engine oil cooler hoses

Is this for your 87 R30 ? Looks like GM parts Giant has the inlet hose: https://www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts/gm-hose-12472199.html The other hose should be a 12472194 and it is available on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-12472194-Original-Equipment-Engine/dp/B0049Z8GVC You might want...

I would also say Jasper or ATK. Not sure if you can buy direct from Jasper or if you have to go through a dealer.

    Oil Pressure Goes to Zero!

The simple way to figure out the problem is to put a mechanical gauge on it. That will tell you for sure and you can trouble shoot from that point. I am in agreement with the others that it is 99% certainly an electrical problem and it might not even be in the wires at the gauge or sending...

350 small block with m12 crank bolt?!

Bruce, The torque spec is for oil only. If you use anti-seize you can actually overtighten the bolt and risk stripping the threads. Just keep that in mind when you tighten it. I have never used anything but a little oil on those bolts.

350 small block with m12 crank bolt?!

Bruce, I just checked a couple of cranks I have here and the stock bolt threads in just about 3/4" into both of them. Do you have the big washer that goes on the bolt ? It is almost 1/4" thick.

350 small block with m12 crank bolt?!

Bruce, If you are close enough to John at Ace take the two bolts to him and tell him what you have going on and ask his opinion. I would do that first. You might have something really oddball going on but I dont think so.

350 small block with m12 crank bolt?!

Have you tried the new bolt in a 7/16 fine thread nut ? Not something most guys have sitting around though. If you put the two bolts against each other do the threads look the same ? I think you might just have a worn out old bolt and a maybe a little bigger new bolt that needs to be finessed...

350 small block with m12 crank bolt?!

If it takes a 5/8 socket then it is a 7/16 bolt. Chevy engine internals are all SAE. The only metric in those years is the bolt on stuff. I dont know if the HD bolt checker will have 7/16. Its kind of an oddball size except for automotive. The threads on the stock crank bolt I have here...

350 small block with m12 crank bolt?!

What doe the head on the bolt look like ? Have you measured to to be sure it is metric ? What size wrench or socket fits it. When you say it is M12 is that on the bolt head or did you actually measure the threads and it is 12mm ? 12mm is a fair amount larger than the 7/16 so maybe it has...

350 small block with m12 crank bolt?!

Do you have a 7/6 x 20 tap you can try running in there ? Are you sure the one you took out is Metric ? If it is somebody probably screwed up and put it in there and that might have messed the threads up. If you do go see John tell him "double wide" sent you. He will get a kick out of that...

If the rest of the block looks as bad as what is in your picture I would not waste another second on it. Looks like it has been sitting in the ocean for a few years :( Your machine shop could tell you for sure but thats my opinion going by the one picture.

350 small block with m12 crank bolt?!

Every small block Chevy engine I have ever seen (and I have seen plenty :) ) uses a 7/16 x 20 bolt. Unless someone messed it up and rethreaded it or simply used the wrong bolt. See if you can find a longer 7/16 fine thread bolt and try it. ARP makes a stud that you could use also. Where are...

I have always used what the owners manual calls for unless it is a modified engine. AC Delco for me.

    Is it oil or antifreeze?

I just noticed this thread. The white buildup is probably oil. I doubt that it is from the valve guides. It is most likely from worn or stuck piston rings.

Engine using excessive oil "opinions wanted"

I never understood the thinking behind MMO in the fuel tank to help with rings ?? Its just going to get burned during combustion and in my opinion just make matters worse. We used to use the GM Top engine cleaner back when it was still potent. I would take all the plugs out, pour about a cup...
