Issues with HEI swap from original points ignition.

Well as it turns out it was a timing issue. Rotated to TDC and re-installed the distributor and it fired right up.

Issues with HEI swap from original points ignition.

I forgot to mention I did exactly what you describe. I jumped directly from battery to distributor and it cranked normally and fired immediately. Let it run for 4 or 5 seconds then disconnected the wire. The fact that it fired immediately and ran for 4 to 5 seconds leads me to believe that...

Issues with HEI swap from original points ignition.

The new engine is from a 79. I re-used my starter and wiring from the 74 EXCEPT for the original wire that went to the points distributor and coil. I ran a new 10 gauge wire from the "IGN" spade in my fuse panel to the "Batt" side of the HEI distributor. I re-did all my grounds with new...

Issues with HEI swap from original points ignition.

When I removed the old coil and points distributor I cut the wires off as I figured I would not need them anymore. When I installed the new motor with an HEI distributor I ran a new keyed 12V wire (10 gauge) directly from the "IGN" spade in my fuse panel to the "Batt" spade on the distributor

Issues with HEI swap from original points ignition.

UPDATE: Since my last post this is what ive learned: - unhooked BAT/TACH harness from the distributor and tested the BAT wire was getting proper voltage. 0V with key off and 12.6V with key on. -kept harness unhooked, key forward and turned over with starter trigger. Dropped to 10.4V while...

Good day, I am having ignition issues with my HEI swap from original points ignition. Please help! 1974 Chev C20 Original 350 motor was seized so I removed it and installed another 350 from a 79. The new motor had an HEI distributor so I deleted the old points system....I think. Now that I...

    Broken U-Joint Strap Bolt Question

This is what I think I'm going to do. It just makes sense from a strength perspective, as well as, a cost perspective.

    Broken U-Joint Strap Bolt Question

Just looking for answers/opinions. 1974 Chev C20 with 14 bolt FF Rear Differential. Removed driveshaft and in the process of removing the u-joint strap bolts I snapped one of them off. I tried extracting it in place but didnt work. I removed the pinion flange as I was going to change the seal...

    Fuel return changes?

Good afternoon, I will be installing a used engine that I purchased into my 74 C20 as the original seized 350 turned out to be beyond repair. The used engine has a mechanical fuel pump with a return line however my current fuel system is not a return style. I plan on changing my fuel tank and...

    Guess I'm into it now

Here are some updated photos after pulling it apart. 2 pistons were quite stuck in the bores but I was able to get them free and removed them all. Crank is quite clean. Underside of the heads is another story..yikes! Obviously had some moisture.

    Guess I'm into it now

Spent about a month soaking and trying to loosen a stuck 350 sbc in my new to me 74 Chev C20. From what I can tell the motor is original and likely never been out of the truck. I was unable to get it free so decided to pull it out of the truck. After some swearing and a lot of mess it actually...

    Bench Seat Identification

Good day...I recently purchased this truck and it does not have the original bench seat. I am wondering if anyone can tell me what color it is and maybe even what possible year its from? It has some fading but relatively pretty good shape. Thanks!

    Stalling Issue

Not sure if you found your answer BryanS but mine was fuel supply. Turns out I had a high performance mechanical fuel pump on the motor and it was pushing like 9.5psi to the carb. I installed a Holley fuel regulator and dialed it down to about 6psi and it doesnt stall anymore
