    1980 Roundeye GMC

Didn't realize so many people were taking out the rectangle lights out and swapping in "round eyes". I personally think the rectangles look pretty cool so I took out the round eye and modified in the rectangle "eye" in my 79 GMC Royal Sierra Heavy Half. For all of you who have swapped your...

I need help diagnosing 1987 chevy

I had a similar a problem that turn into not even starting. The map sensor was bad. I would also check or replace other sensors in and around the TBI and engine, such as the TPS, Throttle Position Sensor. Maybe even the heat sensor in the block that fed the ECM.

    What is this?

There is a one wire sensor on the passenger side of the motor above the exhaust manifold and below the valve cover lip about in the center of the block. On my engine (91 454) the sensor is for the Aux cooling fan temp switch.

    What am I looking at?

It is factory and its a flame arrestor, that part for those who responded have it right. I believe why some trucks have this is because they were ordered up as commercial vehicles for things like forestry and firefighting in the trees/forest. They didn't want these trucks backfiring and...

    NV4500 clunk

I would check the u joints fore and aft. If they are worn they will make a good loud clunk sound as you let off the gas and or let the truck brake the engine.

High idle help after replacing fuel pumps, 1988 K30, Original, TBI, 454.

I have the same set up in my truck only its a 91 year model. I too, was concerned about the high idle speed upon starting the motor. I did some reading about the high idle and all the different sensors that the engine has and is sending to the ECM. Like you, my first thought was the IAC. But...

    Operating under temp.

before changing thermostats, block off the entire radiator. I lived in Alaska for 8 years and half of that time was in Keni and Nome. We always shoved a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator for 100% blockage for winter driving.

    Flywheel differences

Wow, very cool there are two guys doing almost the same thing with their trucks at the SAME TIME. Its great to be able to bounce your ideas and frustrations off each other. I found it very difficult to garner the information I needed to do my tranny swap. Couldn't find anyone that was doing...

    Clutch finger spacing

Thanks for responding. I think you meant .60. One to many zeros.

    Clutch finger spacing

Does any know if there is a standard dimension that any or all pressure plate fingers sit off the flywheel face? Also does anyone know what the travel distance of the fingers (in inches) is required to disengage the clutch?

    Transmission sheet metal hump.

Why not build your own cover. Lowe’s sells small pieces of sheet metal in 20 or 22 gauge and I believe like 18 gauge. 22 gauge is easier to work. Pound the side edges over on an anvil or piece of railroad track. Once you get the fit you want drill holes in the cover around the perimeter then...

    Surface Rust Removal

If your bed is "water tight" point the nose of the truck downward a little. Fill the bed with vinegar full strength, just enough to cover over the metal. Let it set over night. If you have any ground or weeds to kill save the vinegar. Depending on how badly its rusted you can leave it sit...

    Transmission Options

If your C10 is clean and bright, I too, would leave it as is. I am biased a little, that is my favorite year, If you are planning on restoring the truck you might just consider a 350CI w/ a 400 or 350t. The combo is fairly inexpensive, easy to find and easy on the wallet for parts. A little...

Mounting a heavy belt-driven air compressor

How tall is the bendix compressor from mounting base to top of head?

    Running boards and fender flares

Anyone out there know where or who is selling the molded running boards that turn up and into wheel flare moldings both front and rear wheels? They were generally made of plastic or fiberglass. They had a recess at each door (like for burbs) for the step. Standard PU’s had a step in front of the...

    Hydraulic clutch masters and slaves

Bluex, I did some math this morning. I do happen to have a brand new 03 master cylinder that I bought cause I thought the original one was bad. Also was struggling with 91' and 03' hose connectors. Well the 03 master is very different than the 91 in how it mounts in the truck so I replaced...

    Hydraulic clutch masters and slaves

John, I have install a ZF6 in place of the sm465. I now have a different slave than factory but still have the factory master in the truck, that being a 91 crew 2wd with a 454.

    Hydraulic clutch masters and slaves

Anyone aware of the relationship between the volume of fluid pushed by the master and what the slave requires for a proper operation when depressing the clutch peddle?

Engine starts and goes to full RPM???

Found the problem and analyzed why I couldn’t spot the problem. Nevertheless I’m still quite embarrassed to admit this to the world but if it helps the next person then I’ll take the lumps accordingly. When you are restomoding a different tranny that requires a new cross that is home made or...

Engine starts and goes to full RPM???

I have been saying the same thing. How can it get to full rpm with the throttle plate closed. I will run those tests tomorrow, the blank off and mess around more with IAC. The “R” is the style of truck (3+3) or crew cab that was the last year made as a square body. They continued making the...

Engine starts and goes to full RPM???

It is cable throttle. The throttle lever is pretty stiff, not sure how it could get sucked open, but I’ll check that out. It is otherwise closed in static position (with engine is off).

Engine starts and goes to full RPM???

I have been working on my 91 R 3500 for almost a year with it up on blocks. Doing a transmission swap, and install all new tie rods, brake pads, rotors and so on. So just got the trans in, an '03 zf 6 and went to start the engine. It immediately went to full race. Shut it off just as fast...

    Big Block Vortec Heads

Check into the height of those studs. I read where the use of the stud makes the valve train taller to the point that the stock valve covers may not accommodate them.
