    DIY paint??

Hey Ted, Thanks for your reply. I found a Tech School reasonably close to me, Thaddius Stevens Tech in Lancaster, PA. I'm going to drive down there and talk to them. If nothing else they might have a suggestion or two as to what I might try. Sam

    DIY paint??

I've taken this '81 Stepside to about 15+ body shops on my area and no one wants the job of painting the truck. I've spent hours reading previous posts here and I understand it's not an easy job. I got to thinking about trying it myself, but have no, zero, nada experience in auto painting. I do...

    Customer Service..

The replacement piece that came today is "Made in Taiwan" and looks exactly like the one they sent me a year ago. The old one leaked from the top of the unit and all the rubber cracked and just disintegrated, letting water into the socket and corroded. From the tone of your e-mail I take...

    Customer Service..

In today's world, usually you just get no response or a "shrug-off"........I was impressed with the way LMC owned up to a bad part and handled the situation. I even offered to send the old part back, at my expense.....I've dropped probably over $500.+ with LMC in last 5 months..... Thought LMC...

    Customer Service..

I just want to share with this group a recent experience I had with LMC (Long Motor Corp). About 1 year ago I had to replace the license plate lamp assembly on my '81 Stepside. After 38+ years the old unit finally rusted out and was gonners. Ordered a replacement from LMC and all is...

    Correct Cig Lighter Assbly

It should have cost me $64.00 + $15.00 shipping around $79.00 total. It ended up costing more because I screwed up in ordering parts, had to send one part back..... I thought it was worth it because I've replaced this several times over the years with the cheap ......(Inexpensive, if you like...

    1981 C1500 factory air repair

Where do you buy R12 today? If you can find it, anyone selling it is sure to want an EPA Certificate? R12 was discontinued in 1994, yes/no?? I had a shop convert my system years ago to R134A because R12 as being phased out and future service with R12 would prove difficult, at best. But, I'm...

Hey James;bigcountry78, THANKS! for the offer but...... I found the "Rochester" REPRODUCTION assembly at Classic Industries. Entire unit consists of 3 pieces, 1. cig lighter housing $24.99 + ship (contains element) 2. cig housing retainer $11.99 + ship (needed to hold housing) 3. cig...

    Correct Cig Lighter Assbly

Anybody know the correct replacement cig lighter assembly for '81 Chev truck? I think GM originally called it a Cigar Lighter. A Rochester Assembly will NOT work, too long, ashtray will not close. Thanks! for any replies, Nick.

    1981 door lock switch

Hey Jabin.....Thanks for your reply and info. Yea, this '81 is a nightmare. The brakes are '80 and it's such a mishmash combination of metric and sae bolts/nuts/fasteners makes you crazy trying to work on it. Another member calls himself frankentruck and I know exactly what the guy...

    1981 door lock switch

Hey Dylan, Thanks for your reply. There is a design difference/change between the '81 and later years, also the mounting. I've got the door torn apart right now replacing the window motor so while I've got it apart, I'd like to get the correct switch installed. Right now, I've got a later...

    1981 door lock switch

Anybody know a vendor selling a power door lock switch for 1981 truck? LMC doesn't have it and Rockauto lists a door switch but it's an error. What Rockauto shows as a door lock switch is really a window switch.

    Q? Vacuum lines for A/C-Heater...

Bruce, Thanks very much for the explanation and picture. Just from what you wrote your tech abilities are light years ahead of mine. I got a hose connector for the heater hoses so got the 'ol gal up and running, trying to catch up on a backlog of jobs. Got taxes to deal with etc so the...

    Q? Vacuum lines for A/C-Heater...

Dougnsalem, THANKS!! so very much for finding that part. Sometimes your brain gets so involved and focused that you can't see the obvious. "Can't See the Forest for the Trees" sort of thing. We've probably all done that at least once, HA! Again, THANKS! Nick.

    Q? Vacuum lines for A/C-Heater...

Hey Bruce or anybody else who might look at this thread: I need to run this truck and I'm not going to try and rush this heater box fix. What would be the best way to "TIE OFF" or otherwise connect the two heater lines under the hood? A 1/2" piece of copper tubing is too big to easily fit the...

    Q? Vacuum lines for A/C-Heater...

Hey Bruce, I keep going back to the Factory Manual and studying the schematics. In the "G" design no plenum vacuum pot is shown and my truck does NOT have a plenum vacuum pot.....at least I can't find it. Where is it in your truck? Do you know? Have you ever torn into your system?? In...

    Q? Vacuum lines for A/C-Heater...

Thanks! for that clarification. I think your "Frankenchevy" is spot-on! This '81 p/u I have is absolutly a FrankenTruck!!.......seems to have been built with a mess of leftover parts. The brakes require 1980 parts, the A/C Heat controller is from a Model "G" and on and on.......

    Q? Vacuum lines for A/C-Heater...

Hey Bruce, Thanks again for your reply. Good to know the vacuum line is still available. I'm going to study the diagrams again in the shop manual and try to get it connected as per factory specs before I start playing around with modifications. This whole "project" started several months ago...

    Q? Vacuum lines for A/C-Heater...

Hey Bruce, THANKS! for your reply. After a bit more scouring the manual I realized the back of the controller I have is different than the one in the manual shown for "C" and "K" models. Apparently the controller I have is designated for a "G" model vehicle (whatever a "G" model is???) and...

New member, first post...so grateful to find this site! 1981 Chev Silverado. Leaking heater core. Had to pull under dash plastic distribution box out. Original, very dirty so I'm trying to clean it up, replace heater core and "refresh" with new seals, etc. Several vacuum lines...
