Anybody know the correct replacement cig lighter assembly for '81 Chev truck? I think GM originally called it a Cigar Lighter. A Rochester Assembly will NOT work, too long, ashtray will not close.
Thanks! for any replies, Nick.

I have one from the Help section at Autozone in my 84. Works and fits well.

The "correct" solution is to quit smoking. :D
I actually don't smoke, the truck came with a lighter so I wanted one in the hole, although my phone charger usually occupies the spot.

I have one from AZ in my K5 and one from Oreilly's in my SWB. Same brand, fit well, looks right and works. They are chrome. Same here, used to charge my phone.

I've got one out of a 73 I can send you if you think it will work. I'll see if I can dig it up tonight.

Hey James;bigcountry78, THANKS! for the offer but......
I found the "Rochester" REPRODUCTION assembly at Classic Industries. Entire unit consists of 3 pieces,
1. cig lighter housing $24.99 + ship (contains element)
2. cig housing retainer $11.99 + ship (needed to hold housing)
3. cig lighter $26.99 + ship (coil and knob assembly)
Close to $100.00 by the time I paid shipping and postage for a return part, but that's just my being stupid and not paying attention or thinking it through. (I ended up ordering each piece separately, dumb ass me!)
Nice, solid, good quality, fits right, looks good, and works.
Had bought an assembly at Auto Zone, but cheap, flimsy compared to what Classic Industries sells. Get what you pay for?? Everything at CI seems to be way more expensive than LMC or Classic Parts/America but if the quality of their stuff is better..........???
Do all trucks have this odd fiber optic?? light? Never knew it was there until I tore the dash apart to change some non-working gauges and clean up the bezel. Nick.

Holy ****! $100 for a cig lighter? I replaced mine last night. $6.99 at AutoZone. The cost of "quality" only goes so far on non-moving parts.

It should have cost me $64.00 + $15.00 shipping around $79.00 total. It ended up costing more because I screwed up in ordering parts, had to send one part back..... I thought it was worth it because I've replaced this several times over the years with the cheap ......(Inexpensive, if you like PC talk)...... ones bought at the various auto parts stores and it's a ROYAL PIA to replace it. I hope this is the last time I have to do it, and it should be, because it will only be used as a cell phone charger, but I've got a top quality assembly as close to original quality as can be had.
