Your opinion on seldom driven GMC V20

The mechanic says the engine has a 14% average leakdown on the test. If I keep the truck, he suggests a used engine.

Your opinion on seldom driven GMC V20

I had the truck looked at a year ago for lack of power. The mechanic had told me the engine was worn out. But, for all I used it for, it could last several more years. Between adding oil and poor performance I just decided to make a change. I looked at upgrading to a newer model used truck, but...

Your opinion on seldom driven GMC V20

Greetings, I have a 1987 GMC V20 that I use to plow our 800ft drive and occasionally pick up lumber or gravel. I might put a 1,000 miles on it annually. It has a 5.7 tbi engine that has begun burning massive amounts of oil. I want to keep the truck and replace the engine. I have been behind the...

    Installing a 1995 5.7 TBI engine into a 1987 V20 5.7 TBI

Thanks again bucket. I've found several 94-95 engines locally to look at. Mostly around $500. Your info helps out alot.

Thanks bucket. And the engine/transmission electronics and wiring are good also?

    Can wiper linkage be rebuilt?

Here are two pics of the same linkage joint. I have no idea how it comes apart.

    Can wiper linkage be rebuilt?

Ok, no problem. I have the linkage out anyway to soak the spindles. I will take take a pic today and post it. I may have confused everyone with my initial post. The title says it's a GMC which would make it a V2500 and not a V20. It probably doesn't matter but it was a mistake on my part. I do...

    Can wiper linkage be rebuilt?

SirRobyn0, is this what your kits look like? The GM bushings bin says they fit 2005 - 88.

    Can wiper linkage be rebuilt?

I was thinking it might provide better lubrication than WD or transmission fluid. This would be after it gets loosened up.

    Can wiper linkage be rebuilt?

Thanks so much for the part number. O'Reilly had it in stock. I will get to work on it in a couple of days. Once the spindle moves freely, would it be a good idea to soak it in a heavy oil?

    Can wiper linkage be rebuilt?

Haven't had any luck with Dorman. I did find a complete assembly at Brothers Trucks. A little steep at $119, but what can I do. It's on back order.

    Can wiper linkage be rebuilt?

Thanks 1973c10. I sent them an email inquiring about the part. I didn't know I could order directly from Dorman.

    Can wiper linkage be rebuilt?

I have a 1987 GMC V20. One of the wiper spindles is stiff and the linkage pivots are very sloppy. I have not been able to find new linkage. Is there a kit available to rebuild the linkage? Thanks. Steve

    Power to Blower Motor Switch

You should have 12v or so at the fan relay on the orange, red, and purple wires with the fan switch set to it highest setting. Check the relay pins for corrosion also. I had forgot to mention that. Good luck. Steve1987

    Power to Blower Motor Switch

Boy, that voltage information below the picture is hard for even me to understand. I will try to post a better layout soon. Thanks for the replies. Steve1987 This is better.

    Power to Blower Motor Switch

Problem solved. First of all I want to thank all of you for your responses. Second, I have to tell you that I had made all the previous checks with the control slide switch in the off position. What a bonehead! So all the measurements I took before are invalid. I did not realize that until I had...

    Power to Blower Motor Switch

Thanks for the responses. I applied power directly to the fan motor from the battery through a fused jumper and it runs strong. I can not find power on any of the connectors at the switch, the relay, or the resistor with the truck running and the switch set to any position. The fuse is good. The...

    Power to Blower Motor Switch

Hi, The blower motor fan is not working. I have attached a photo of the blower switch. I'm guessing one of these four wires should have power but none do. Off to the left in the background is a spliced brown wire that has power. It runs together with the four switch wires over to the passenger...

    Windshield Wiper Motor Bad, Agree?

Hi, This is what I think I know. My wiper motor has three wires to it; +12 volt on white wire, the gray wire is the ground when low speed is selected, and the purple wire is the ground when hi speed is selected. Low speed works fine although very slow. Hi speed does not work. I stripped some...

    Hello. Happy to be here.

I purchased a 1987 GMC V2500 several months ago to use as a plow truck. It's a typical Northern Ohio rust bucket, but it does have a very good frame. I'm hoping to get some good information here and perhaps even provide some too. I believe it's a 350 TBI and the transmission is an automatic...
